@Mustang67 I have a negative carbon footprint through regenerative farming. I like reading addendums on recipes on how you can be versatile with what you have. I don't always get it right but there are some good ideas.  I try getting things done but tbh I struggle on my medications and my chronic fatigue syndrome. Its hard to see ways around it but I do to-do lists to try and lend structure and direction but by the average able bodied/minded person's standards it does not compare. Wish I could do more but my body gives out. Its why I am on a disability pension.

It's totally understandable that those photos would have more bad memories than good and how you wouldn't exactly be in a rush to look at them again considering what has happened since.  The heat probably hasn't done them any favours.  The dye used in CD-r's can be affected by too much heat over time and degrade.

@SmilingGecko That sound's interesting.  Do you just slice them thinly and cook them?  Definitely sounds worth a try!

I also have about 100 cd's in storage, containing wedding photos, as the ex and I used to take wedding photos on the weekend. Most of the clients are probably divorced by now, so hopefully no one wants to purchase any more wedding photos. We dissolved the business after I kicked the lazy SOB out.

 

I have worked out that I have out paid over $15,000 in storage fees so far. So with the help of Life Without Barriers, they found a company that will come to my storage facility and remove my household furniture and belongings and donate them to local charities to assist people that are struggling. Anything that I wish to keep could go to my mum's. But that means I need to cull some of my belongings that are already at my mum's, so I can make room for any boxes that need to be sorted through.

 

At first I was hesitant because I have really nice solid wooden furniture. And when I got a house. I would need it. But now that I have been told, I was looking at 10 years. And I will be stuffed if I am going to continue to pay for storage for that long.

 

And it was pointed out to me, that my furniture would probably hold bad memories anyway. And when I thought about it, they were right. So now I am happy to let it all go.

 

It is going to cost between $600 & $800 for the removalists. And as suggested, I made an appointment with Anglicare Financial Services to apply for a Wyatt Grant to pay for this service.  So I attended my financial appointment and was told that the Wyatt Grant would only cover about half, and I will need to come up with the rest.

 

Because of my background, the counsellor suggested that I apply for housing through the Domestic Violence portal or through Toward Home. She thinks that I would get somewhere to live a lot sooner. Then she advises that I don't get rid of my furniture, as I will be needing it.

 

It took me months to come to terms with what Life Without Barriers were suggesting and to agree to it. And in a one hour appointment, it has all been turned on its head. And I feel lost again. I really don't want to keep my furniture, as nice as it is. As some not very nice things happened to me from two different partners while I had it.  But of course if I did apply for housing through these services, and got one sooner than later, I wouldn't be able to afford to buy any furniture. So now I feel stuck.

 

I must apologise for my long message, but because of my childhood, I am an over sharer. Lol

@MJG017 its a great sugar, fat and salt free snack! Slice them thinly, sprinkle both sides with ground ginger powder and ground cinnamon powder. Put in your oven under your lowest possible setting. Cook one side for an hour. Then turn the apple slices over and cook on the other side for an hour. Then you will have some crunchy healthy snacks.

I think if the domestic violence portal can get you into housing sooner than 10 years, that should be your priority.  Not just to get your own place, but mentally for you as well.  But getting rid that furniture may be for the best as well.  Could you sell it?  Is it worth selling for enough extra money to fund some of the removal costs (which you may not need if you sell it all) not covered by the grant and some replacement (though not as nice) furniture later? 

 

I do understand the issue of buying anything to replace the old furniture may be out of the question, so you may be forced to keep the old furniture.  Is there anywhere you could store it temporarily to save storage costs?  I guess if you could, you would have.  It all depends on just how much space it all takes.  I think finding out more about how long the wait may be for housing through the DV portal may makes these decisions easier.  If it's quite quick then the storage fees may be acceptable if it's not for very much longer.  If you did end up keeping it... maybe painting or restaining it later on may change it enough to not bring back those old memories.  Either way, I do think the housing should be the priority.  What are you thinking?  I've always though when faced with hard decisions that I tended to get as much information as I could and make that decision with as much info and options as possible.  We're always here to help you through.  I just wish there was more I could do to help.

@Mustang67 back spasms are the worst. I can certainly sympathise as I've dealt with chronic pain and all sorts of pain interventions with specialists to stop that spasming. What helps? Heat packs at all?

 

See you're into the Aussie car racing with the V8s. They're impressive machines. I must confess I quite like the F1 too. Appreciate the technology and strategy that goes in. It has grown on me. Do you follow the F1 too?

@SmilingGecko This sounds like a daily achievement for me in the making.  Do they thin out quite a bit as they cook?  The instructions say slice them 3-6mm.  That seems thick to me compared to how they look.

@SmilingGecko that is awesome regarding your negative carbon footprint. I don't think I know anyone even close to that.

 

My mum suffers from chronic fatigue syndrome, so I know how hard it must be for you, and to be struggling with your medications on top of it.

 

I am very limited in what I can do because of chronic back pain at the moment. I am putting some things in place next month, to hopefully start the road to a normal back and normal physical life. I have tried physiotherapy and exercise in the past, but then my mental health deteriorates, and I just don't go back. I have done that twice now. I feel that currently I am in a good place mentally, so after the anniversary of my partner's death on the 30th, I will have another go with physiotherapy, and hopefully, I will last long enough to strengthen my core muscles, which will then enable me to start walking again, and help me to lose weight, so I have less strain on my back and knees.

 

So you can see, for me, what you achieve is a lot. And I congratulate you on that 😀
